These paintings and photographs are products of the walks I do, a love of the natural world, a fascination with light, and an interest in the properties of both media. So, there are similarities and common elements across all the work – for example, in the depiction of light and shade, and a play with the illusion of space.

There are also differences of course. Painting is a slow process, so the work tends to be more thoughtful and considered – although I try to keep a sense of ease and lightness in the work. The photographs tend to be made spontaneously, as a response to something seen – for example, in a moment of wonder, a record of juxtapositions and appearances that are unusual or unexpected, or as a reaction to something whimsical.
